Read moreThanks to excavation, we discovered a great aula - huge room where feasts were organized. This room was the most important one in castles since Carolingian times. It is 1.7 meters long and 6.5 meters wide, that is 70 square meters, moreover, its walls were one meter thick. You came into this room through the south two-leaf door. This site was probably abandoned in the 12th century. Then, it belonged to the lord of Gerbaix who had the castle rebuilt at the beginning of the 13th century and, he had a square tower erected on the vestiges of the former aula.
The death of his last descendants encouraged the settling of count of Savoie in Saint Maurice de Rotherens who had a new castle built, between 1343 and 1359, 500 meters away on the Mauchamps mound for military reasons.
