Remparts d'Avignon
Avignon
What chance to admire the fortified belt of a city today! As "Carcassonne" or "Aigues-Mortes" (closer) Avignon is one of the few French cities to have preserved all its ancient walls still surround the city.
These magnificent ramparts have been several classifications such as historical monuments by the Ministry of Culture in 1906, 1914, 1915, 1933 and 1937.
They are classified as UNESCO World Heritage.
These walls have a length of 4.3 km. They were begun in 1355 when under the pontificate of Innocent VI to repel the Great Companies, and completed in 1370 with Urban V.
Feel free to walk around! A walk through time.
