The island of Mont Saint-Michel is a granite rocky island located east of the mouth of the river Couesnon, the rock on which was built a sanctuary in honor of St. Michael the Archangel from 709.
The rock represents only a small part of the town which also extends over the dike and dozens of hectares of polders. The core of the rock is covered by the footprint of the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel and its domain.
Today, more than three and a half million visitors a year enjoy this spiritual destination, cultural and tourist must.
