Situated at the entrance of Brignais, the part of the "Route Royale"* from the city of Lyon to the city of St-Etienne passed over this bridge. It has been listed with the "Inventaire des Monuments Historiques" since 1934.
Read moreThis bridge existed as nearly as the Middle Ages. It is composed of two 4-meter high stone arches and is humpbacked like several bridges of this century. The roadway is composed of pebbles "têtes de chat" (specific round shaped for pebbles used for road construction) and the walls of the parapet are covered of granit flagstone.
Damaged by the test of time and the neglect of men, the bailiff of Mâcon, a seneschal of Lyon, obliged, in 1399, the inhabitants of Brignais and Vourles to pay a tax to finance its repair in 1399.
* The "Route Royale" was one of the first road network built at the end of 17th and the beginning 18th centuries in France.
