This chapel was founded on 24th August 1457 by the people of L'Etelley and Le Vernay, owners of the land where it was built in 1818.
Since the Vernay river frequently burst its banks, the chapel was also designed to enable the villagers "to say their prayers in public, especially at times when they fear that the river might flood".
The Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit was a charitable organisation but it no longer exists.
In fact, the chapel is a reminder of a long history of benefits and misfortunes.
