Ellis Island, symbol of the American dream, until 1954 was the arrival point for immigrants seeking to enter the United States. The old buildings of the northern section of the island have been redeveloped into a museum tracing the history of immigration to the United States. Access to Ellis Island is by ferry serving Liberty Island.
