The Colca River, best known for its canyon, also runs a more welcoming valley. This valley contains numerous agricultural terraces and contains some archaeological remains belonging to the Collagua culture, the ancient inhabitants of the area, such as mysterious petroglyphs.
The valley is wider and shallower than the canyon which was long considered the largest in the world before he discovers that his neighbor was deeper than 160 meters. The altitude ranges from 3500 meters to 2200 meters in Cabanaconde.
