Roman bell tower, flamboyant Gothic ciboire from the 15th century to the right of the choir, wooden bas reliefs from the 17th century depicting scenes from the life of Jesus. The Notre Dame cathedral is located in the historic center of Grenoble, which developed around the cathedral throughout the ages. By becoming an official city in the 3rd century, Grenoble also became the center of a diocese. Built in a bend in the city ramparts, the "bishop's city" was organized around a baptistry, a double cathedral (Notre Dame and Saint Hugues), and the residence of the bishops. The history of this episcopal city was revealed to us recently after 10 years of research: The Bishop's Palace became the Museum of the Old Bishop's Palace, with the remains from the Gallo Roman period underground: the rampart from the 3rd century, the postern that allows us to enter the ruins of Cularo (the Gallo Roman name of Grenoble) and finally the baptistery and its annex rooms. The baptismal font reminds us of the primitive liturgy of the baptism. The 13th century cathedral is built against the St Hugues church (11th century).
